Hawaiian by design, these tiny instruments are a lot of fun to build and equally fun to play. They can go anywhere with you, and if you use the “Low G” tuning, can be played with your familiar guitar chords. A great place to start, and a fun project for an experienced luthier.
See my plans in action: Kathy Matsushita, a California English Teacher, builds a Concert Ukulele. The picture on the left is her finished uke.
Some day, hopefully in the near future, you will be able to order chord charts and a construction video. The video will be aimed at the beginning to intermediate level luthier. See the bottom of this page for details...

Soprano Ukulele
Tiny in size - huge on value. The rage from the roaring 20's can come tiptoeing back. This is a traditional styled soprano uke which is about 21 inches. Easy to build and easy to play, the first 11x17 plate shows sound box and fret board details. The second plate details the neck with horizontal lamination information.
Scale length - 13 3/4"
Soprano Ukulele drawings - 2 plates ............... $5.00

Concert Ukulele
You wont find this plan easily! The concert uke is slightly larger than the soprano uke shown above. It is tuned identically. Its features a 15.5" fret scale. Sound volume from this uke is significantly superior. Includes bracing details and much, much more. It does not include details of the tulip inlay that you could design for you peghead - we leave that up to you ;-)
Scale Length - 15 1/2"

Tenor Ukulele
Another hard to find plan - but we have it! The tenor uke fills out our family. This uke plan is similar to all of our other plans, and shares many details with the other ukes. It features a moderately complicated marquetry rosette. I’m sorry, I couldn’t figure out how to do a tulipette.
Scale Length - 16 3/4"

Baritone Ukulele
This remains a popular plan, long after all the tiptoeing has crushed the tulips! This is an inexpensive instrument to build due to its small size and flat construction. The only difficult item on this plan is the rosette around the sound hole. This may be omitted. Neck joint details are sketchy. One of our favorite plans.
Scale Length - 18 1/2"

Carved Top Ukulele
Another Exclusive - You won't find this plan anywhere else. It is just about halfway between a guitar and a violin, and it is built on the same mold as our standard baritone ukulele above. Great sound in a fun sized carry anywhere instrument that everyone will want to get their hands on. As with all carved top instruments, this is not a beginner project. This is a technical drawing, and not a set of instructions. Make a different sort of tulip!
Scale Length - 18 1/2"

Polygonal Ukulele
Donsplans has it - no one else does! You won't find this plan anywhere else. This one is a real pleaser. Stylistically, it is similar to a "Flying V" electric guitar. Acoustically, it is most similar to a tenor uke, with the same scale length and similar overall length. The true beauty of this instrument, though, is that it requires no wood bending. As such, it is an excellent project for a new luthier, and it kind of shatters the tulip theme!
Scale Length - 16 3/4"
Polygonal Ukulele - 2 plates ............... $ 5.00

Sorry - we have been very delayed on the promised video project, but still intend to do it. We also will be coming out with chord charts for the my-dog-has-fleas and the low G tunings.
